Decisions & Appeals
If you disagree with the VA's decision, you have three appeal options under the Appeals Modernization Act.
Three Appeal Lanes
Each lane serves a different purpose. Choosing the right one depends on your specific situation and whether you have new evidence to submit.
Higher-Level Review
A more experienced claims adjudicator re-examines your existing evidence for errors. No new evidence can be submitted.
Best for: When you believe the VA made an error in evaluating your existing evidence
Supplemental Claim
You submit new and relevant evidence to support your claim. This is the most common appeal path.
Best for: When you have new medical evidence, a nexus letter, or new buddy statements
Board Appeal
A Veterans Law Judge at the Board of Veterans' Appeals reviews your case. You can choose a hearing or direct review.
Best for: When you want a judge to review your case, especially for complex legal issues
